Mamleshwara Temple is a small ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is located at distance of 1 mile from Pahalgam. Mamleshwara Temple is one of the temples which highlight the traditions of Hindu Rulers who used to rule over the Jammu and Kashmir valley in ancient days. It is still regarded as one of the prominent temples of Kashmir valley. The single structured temple is an example of ancient architecture that prevailed in the Kashmir valley. Like all other ancient temples this too is built of stone. Though the temple does not reflect any pomp or show or sculptures yet it describes the golden reign of Hindu rulers in the 8th century BC. While the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha was placed at the doorsteps as a doorkeeper who shall protect the deity and restrict its devotees from entering the premises of the temple. This gave the name of the temple which was originally named as Mamalishwara which means `Mam Mal` or `don`t go`. The temple is looked after by a priest who organizes the daily rituals for the deity. This is often visited by the tourists who visit Pahalagam during the summer season.
Thus along with other ancient temples in Kashmir valley, the Mamleshwara Temple is another important place of worship that attracts a number of devotees every year.
