Mallappally Anikkattilamma Shiva Parvati temple is situated in Anicadu village that is almost 4kms from Mallappally town in Pathanamthitta District in Kerala. Agnimahakalan and Agniyekshi are symbolized in these idols. The temple is believed to date back to 1600 years during the early days of Edappally dynasty. It is situated by the bank of river Manimala.
The idols of Mallappally Anikkattilamma Shiva Parvati temple measures almost 4 ft and has been installed side by side. The demon shaped Lord Shiva (Kiratha) has bow and arrow in His arms and Goddess Parvati has a sword in her hand. The idols have been installed in the garbhagriha or sanctum sanctorum of the temple. Apart from the main idol there are idols of Bhadra, Nagaraja, Rekshas and Yekshiamma in the courtyard. The ever flowering Kanikonna located in the courtyard of the temple gives flower offerings to the Lords everyday in all seasons throughout the year. Mallappally Anikkattilamma Shiva Parvati temple celebrates its yearly festival (Utsavam) for eight days during the month of Kumbham. It concludes on the day of Pooram star which is believed to be the Devi`s birth day.
The ancient Thalathil Bhagavathy temple customarily related to the Shiva Parvati temple, is situated nearby. Santhana Gopala Vishnu and Sreechakram are the main idols that are installed in the temple. Apart from there are other idols like Lord Ganesha, Sastha, Bramharekshas, Nagaraja, Nagayekshi, Bhuvaneswary, fore-fathers, etc. Presently the temple requires repair and renovation work. During the festival time devotes flock the temple to offer their worship and prayers to the deity and receive her blessings. It is believed that if the deity is worshipped with full devotion then all the wishes are fulfilled by her.
Devotees throng the temple to offer various items to the Lord. There are special days when these are offered by the devotees. The `Pongala Pooja` is conducted on the day of Pooram in the month of Kumbham. Every Friday the Naranga Vilakku is conducted. This offering is done by women for a happy married life. Thrisoola Pooja is organized on every Saturday. The presence of Krishna Parunth during the pooja is a regular divine phenomenon. Annadanam, conducted on Fridays and Saturdays is an offering of high sacred value. Apart from these there are other regular offerings like Therali, Kadumpayasam, Neipayasam, Arunazhipayasam, Ellupayasam, Chuttuvilakku, etc that are given to the Lord.
