Madras Native Cavalry was a part of the Madras Cavalry Regiments. The first troop of cavalry in the Madras Presidency was raised in 1748. Given below are the Madras Native Cavalries.
2nd Madras Native Cavalry
2nd Madras Native Cavalry was raised as the 3rd Madras Native Cavalry in 1784. Following a mutiny it was re-designated as the 1st Madras Native Cavalry in 1786. It was re-designated as the 2nd Madras Native Cavalry in 1788 and became the 2nd Madras Light Cavalry in 1819.
3rd Madras Native Cavalry
3rd Madras Native Cavalry was raised as the 2nd Madras Native Cavalry in 1784. It was disbanded following a mutiny and raised again in 1786. It became the 3rd Madras Native Cavalry in 1788 and turned into 3rd Madras Light Cavalry in 1819.
4th Madras Native Cavalry
4th Madras Native Cavalry was raised as the 3rd Madras Native Cavalry in 1784. Following a mutiny, it was re-designated the 1st Madras Native Cavalry in 1786. The unit was re-raised as the 3rd Madras Native Cavalry in 1787. In 1788, it was re-designated as the 4th Madras Native Cavalry.
5th Madras Native Cavalry
5th Madras Native Cavalry was raised as the 4th Madras Native Cavalry in 1784. Following a mutiny, the unit was disbanded in 1784. The unit was re-raised as the 4th Madras Native Cavalry in 1787 and was re-designated as the 5th Madras Native Cavalry in 1788. The unit was disbanded in 1796 and was re-raised as the 5th Madras Native Cavalry in 1799.
6th Madras Native Cavalry
The unit was raised as the 6th Madras Native Cavalry in 1799.
7th Madras Native Cavalry
The unit was raised as the 7th Madras Native Cavalry in 1800.
8th Madras Native Cavalry
The unit was raised as the 8th Madras Native Cavalry in 1804.
