Lakshmanbala Temple

Lakshmanbala Temple is a pilgrimage centre located in Varanasi. The temple can be reached by rising up the stairs of from the Panchganga Ghat. The temple leads into a lane at the summit of the bank, directing its way into the streets of the city. The temple is dedicated to Lakshmanbala. Devotees flock to worship in the temple and pray to the Lord.

Architecture of Lakshmanbala Temple
The architecture of the Lakshmanbala Temple is very simple and looks quite pleasing to the eyes. The main room of the building of Lakshmanbala Temple is in an upper story. Its roof is supported by carved wooden pillars. They have been coloured deep black. The walls of the temple have been adorned with paintings, many of which are representations of green trees, while others are pictures set in frames. There is a room for the devotees who sit there and count their beads, and muttering to themselves the names of their gods. At one end of the room there are three idols placed in a row. The idol in the centre has been dressed in blue colour and has a blue turban on his head. A garland has been kept over his shoulders that hang down in front. All these decorations enhance the beauty of the idol of the Lord.

On the left hand side of the idol is a gilded disk that has been let into the wall. It displays nose, eyes, cheeks, and mouth. There is round nimbus behind his head and is thought to be a representation of the Sun or Lord Surya. On his right side there is a disk that is thought to represent the Moon. It has been made of pale metal, probably silver and displays various parts of the face as in the case of the Sun, but without any gilding or glory. A few feet in front of these idols, a small lamp is kept burning. Light religious music is also performed in the temple that leaves a soothing and pleasant effect upon the ears of the devotees. Devotees visiting the temple sit on the floor in front of the temple and pray to the Lord.
