Lakkundi is a village located in the Gadag District of Karnataka, which is popular for stepped wells, Chalukya style temples and historic inscriptions. There are several ancient wells in here but Chateer Bavi, Kanne Bavi and Musukina Bavi are the most popular ones for the carvings and architectural beauty. Apart from these, Manikesvara Temple stepped well is another popular tourist attraction. The well next to the temple was built during the Chalukya period. On the three sides of the well, there are steps and on the fourth side there is a bridge to reach the mandapa of the temple. Most of the step wells of Lakkundi are built with small canopied niches inside the walls of the wells enshrining lingas.
