Kapistalam Temple is referred to as "Krishnaranyakshetram". The temple is located at a distance of 3km from Paapanasam near Thanjavur, Kumbakonam. The "Panchakrishna Kshetrams" are Tiruvazhundur, Tirukkannankudi, Kapistalam, Kannapuram and Kannamangai. The deity here is Gajendra Varadan (Vishnu), in a reclining posture facing east. There are shrines here to Andal and Santanakrishnan.

Legends of Kapistalam Temple
According to the legend, Lord Vishnu saved Gajendra, the king of elephants from the clutches of a crocodile, upon hearing his prayers.
Another legend also says that, Vaali and Sugreevan worshipped Vishnu here hence the name Kapistalam.
Festivals at Kapistalam Temple
Gajendra Moksham is enacted in the month of Pankuni. Other festivals celebrated here include Vaikuntha Ekadasi, Rama Navami and Akshaya Tritiyai.
How to Reach Kapistalam Temple
The temple is situated in Tanjore, Tamil Nadu. It is 2 miles away from Tanjai - Pabanasam Railway station. Bus routes are available in between Kumbakonam to Thiruvaiyaru.
