Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most prominent tourist spots in Kaimur District of Bihar. This one of the largest sanctuary in the state and occupies an area of about 1342 square km.
Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the famous Kaimur hills range. In the valley portions and at there are several waterfalls of which the finest are Karkat Waterfall and Telhar falls. There are several Lakes as well where as famous lake is Anupam Lake
Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1982. It spread over the wide range of Mirzapur District and Sonbhadra District. The Sanctuary has a wide variety of wildlife in its lush green dense forest cover with numerous waterfalls, treasure of pre-historic caves, rock paintings & heritage of rare fossils. It is an ideal spot for winter tourism with the nature, wildlife and pre historic mural paintings. This Wildlife Sanctuary house the animals like Black Buck, Chital, Sambhar, Chinkara, Blue Bull, Indian Monkey, Baboons (Langur), Rabbits, Porcupine, Wild Dogs, Wild Cat, Snake, Royal Bengal Tiger, Leopard, Wolf, Mongoose, Bear, Jackal, Peafowl and Ratal. There are several kinds of birds like the Grey Quail, Doves, Francolin, Black Partridge, Coloured Francolin, Red spur, pigeon, Blue pigeon, fowl, sand Ground, Grey duck and Cotton Teal. Near the Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary, one can see the pre-historic paintings of Lakhania. This is a type of pre historic Rock paintings found in the cave of this area are about 4000 year old and were discovered by Carlleyle in 1968. Most of the paintings are in terracotta colour and depict hunting, cattle grazing, war scenes, worshipping, bee-keeping, decorative floor designs, meeting, domestic chores. Near the Kaimur Wildlife world the tourists can find the Echo Valley. It is natural valley where phenomenon of echo is distinctly observed. Any sound thrown in the direction of the valley reflects its echo. .
Visitors can access Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary through rail station at Mohania, mostly known as "Bhabua Road" on the Howrah-New Delhi Grand Card in Mughalsarai region. The Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary also offers the tourists with an opportunity to explore the natural habitats of the wild creatures. The salubrious weather coupled with the rich natural splendor of the Dalma Hills casts a magical spell on the tourists. It is an ideal place to rejuvenate oneself with renewed energy and vigor.
