Indian DD Gyandarshan exclusive Educational Television channel of India started by IGNOU and Prasar Bhati in 2000. it relays programmes from various Doordarshan Kendras.

Indian DD GyandarshanIndian DD Gyandarshan is an educational television channel that relays programmes from various Doordarshan Kendras in different Languages. The Educational television channel is organized and administered by NCERT, IGNOU and the National Institute of Open Schools. Educational TV is one of the priority areas for Doordarshan. Curriculum based programmes are produced with active involvement of state educational administrators and teachers and are telecast from Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. Satellite based enrichment programmes for school children are produced by the State Institutes of Educational Technology (SIET), in Marathi at Pune, Gujarati at Ahmedabad, Oriya at Bhubaneshwar and Telugu at Hyderabad, which are broadcasted by all transmitters in the concerned states. Hindi programmes are produced at SIET at Delhi, Lucknow and Patna, which are relayed by all transmitters in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi.

History of Indian DD Gyandarshan
Indian DD Gyandarshan is an exclusive Educational TV channel of India. IGNOU, Ministry of Human Resources Development and Prasar Bharti started the channel in January 2000. This channel provides a blend of core curriculum based programs in the areas of primary, secondary, higher, distance, technical and vocational education.

Programming of Indian DD Gyandarshan
Education Media Research Centres (EMRC) and Audio Visual Research Centres at different places produce programmes for university students. These enrichment programmes provide education within the reach of students in small towns and villages. The programmes are telecast on Gyandarshan from 6 am to midnight and also on DD-1 and DD-2.

Gyandarshan-I beams round the clock programmes acquired from UGC, National Council for Educational Research and Training, Central Institute for Educational Technology, State Institute of Research and Training and IGNOU. Aka Eklavya - Gyandarshan-III channel dedicated to technical education was started on January 26, 2003, in collaboration with the Department of Technical Education of the HRD Ministry and IITs with IIT, Delhi as the nodal point. The channel airing programmes originating from different IITs for the benefit of students pursuing studies in Technology and Engineering has marked the beginning of a new era in the spread of Technical Education in the country.

One of the most popular programmes of the channel is Nitttr, which is an educational program that keeps pace with the improvement in the areas of technology, hosted by National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research. Other shows include Bhasha Mandakini, NCERT / CIET,North East Kaleidoscope / Women`s Empowerment, Adult Education,CEC / UGC, IGNOU-SOSS, IGNOU-SOCIS, BROU, IGNOU-Urdu Programme, IIT etc.

Development of Indian DD Gyandarshan
After the success of the Gyandarshan programme on Doordarshan, the Indira Gandhi National Open University was planning to introduce independent FM bands in 40 stations under the programme named Gyanvani. The University of Calicut established two departments funded by external agencies. The first one was the Department of Biotechnology set up in 1995 with financial assistance of the Department of Biotechnology, Goverment of India, to conduct teaching and research programmes in Biotechnology at the post graduate level. The second was the Audio Visual Research Centre with cent percent funding of the UGC. The Centre produces educational video programmes for broadcast on DD Network - DD1, Vyas, The Higher educational Channel, DD Bharathi and Gyandarshan.

In addition, the broadcasting sector has about hundred private television channels and cable networks all over the country, which are telecasting programmes in different regional languages besides Hindi and English.
