Hathras Fort or Hathras Quilla was built during the 18th century in Hathras town in the district of Hathras in Uttar Pradesh. Hathras district is surrounded by Aligarh in the North; district Etah in the East, Firozabad in the South and district Mathura in the West. It forms a part of Agra Division. The district of Hathras is also known as Mahamaya Nagar district.
The relics of the forts and monuments claim the rule of the Rajputs, the Marathas, the Kushana and the Jats over this region. Archeological objects of Buddhist, Hindu, Jain culture and also of the Kushana Period were excavated at several places in Hathras.
History of Hathras Fort
It was founded by Raja Dayaram who was a renowned Jat ruler. Bhoj Singh, the son of Jat ruler Raja Nandram took control of the region by defeating the Rajput rulers in 1716 Century. The kingdom was then ruled by the descendants of Bhoj Singh. Bhoori Singh, the grandson of Bhoj Singh, established the Lord Balaram temple in the vicinity of the fort. The temple is also popularly known as "Dau Baba".
The railway station of Hathras town is known as Hathras Quilla. The British East India Company annexed the region in 1803. However, the Hathras Fort came under the control of the British in 1817 due to insubordination of the local native ruler.
How to Reach Hathras Fort
The nearest airport is at Agra. Hathras Junction Railway station is 10 Km away from Hathras. There is a good network of roadways connecting major parts of the state with Hathras.
