Overview of Gorakhgad Fort
Made out of stones, the Gorakhgad Fort is currently in ruins and is used by hermits for meditation. The fort is also used by the local people of the surrounding village. Presently, the Gorakhgad Fort is under the administration of the Government of India. In the ancient times, it is said that the Gorakhgad Fort was used to guard the trade route passing through Naneghat.

The main entrance of the fort has inscriptions in Marathi and the cave located near the fort has rock cut cisterns, where the availability of water is all year round. Atop the hill, where the fort is located, there is a small shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva.
