Ghanteswara Shiva Temple

Ghanteswara Shiva Temple, dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva, is located in Orissa. Festivals such as Shivaratri are celebrated on a grand scale by the temple authorities.

Ghanteswara Shiva Temple, OrissaGhanteswara Shiva Temple, worshipped and venerated deeply by the devotees of Lord Shiva, is situated in the Kapileswara precinct in the Indian state of Orissa. The temple dedicated to Lord Shiva enshrines a Shivalinga within a circular yonipitha in the sanctum sanctorum or garbhagriha. The yonipitha is made of laterite. The temple dating back several years narrates the legends and fables of Lord Shiva.

Architecture of Ghanteswara Shiva Temple
Ghanteswara Shiva Temple has a vimana in pidha order and is triratha on plan. Facing the western side, the temple rises upto almost 2.83 m in height. The religious edifice is further marked by bada measuring 1.13 m, gandi measuring 1.00 m and mastaka measuring 0.70 m. The gandi has three tiers.

Ghanteswara Shiva Temple, withstanding the savages of time, stands as a proof to the painstaking work of the early period craftsmen. The doorjambs, further augmenting the beauty of the temple, are 0.82 metres in height and 0.41 metres in width. The cella measure 0.90 square metres while the temple measure 1.53 square metres. An ancient inscription has been inscribed in the lalatabimba of the temple. On the northern side the temple is enclosed by Bhoga-mandapa of Kapileswara temple. The Rosasala pathway is located on the eastern side at a distance of almost 15.50 metres, the Dutiya Kapileswara temple is situated on the western side at a distance of 8.40 metres and the Gupteswar temple is located in the southern side at a distance on 6.45 metres.

Ghanteswara Shiva Temple celebrates several festivals such as Shivaratri on a grand scale attracting pilgrims from different corners of the state.
