Fort Jagmanpur in Jalaun District, Uttar Pradesh is a four storied quadrangle fort that was established in the 16th century. Fort Jagmanpur was built by Raja Jagman Shah, ruler Sengar Rajputs in 1593 A.D. The city was also named after Raja Jagman Shah. The fort is located in the North West side of Jalaun District and is around 125 km away from Kanpur. The four storied square fort, spread across a total area of 7 acres, contains a moat, 50 feet in depth and 100 feet in breadth, on three sides, numerous halls and rooms and dungeon or Tehkhana. There are four separate entrances, two bronze gates and two iron gates; both are adequately big in size. Fort Jagmanpur also consists of a vast terrace, and a panoramic view of the surrounding natural beauty is visible. The fort is situated at the centre of Jagmanpur.
Fort Jagmanpur was built in the year 1593 by Raja Jagman Shah near the banks of the Yamuna River. Sant Tulsidas laid the foundation stone of the fort and gave his blessings and presented a Rudraksh, Dahinaverti Shunkh, a sacred conch and a Laxmi Narayan Bati. These are still preserved in the temple inside the fort and are still worshipped by devotees. Even today a function is held by the Raja on the auspicious day, in which people from nearby areas participate with much fervour. The festival occurs during the month of October and the people flock to worship the God of Sengar Rajputs.
Although Fort Jagmanpur was built in 1593 A.D., still it was extended and developed with the passage of time. The fort is spread over 7 acres of which the moat occupies 3 acres approximately. There are 25 rooms that are still functional. The fort has been preserved well and only a small portion has been damaged. Raja of Jagammanpur, Rajendra Shah, presently owns the property and still resides in it.
The region has developed as a popular tourist destination. Other places of interest include Pachnad, which is a convergence of 5 Rivers, Shiv Mandir on Yamuna River, Haveli & Surahi temple, remnants of old fort in Kanai Kheda, Rampura Fort, Mela in Bisrat Ghat etc. there is also a Crocodile Sanctuary near Chambal River. Other than that Horse and Camel Rides, Boating and Picnic facilities are also available in the area.
Fort Jagmanpur is being considered to be developed as a heritage hotel in the near future, in order to properly maintain the property in future.
