Fauti Masjid is also known as `Phuti Masjid` and had been created within the short time-span of a single night by Nawab Sarfaraz Khan, during the period of 1740 AD. It is located in Kumarpur city, at a distance of nearly 3 quarters of a mile from the impressive and majestic Hazarduari Palace, West Bengal. It is believed that the Nawab had hired numerous masons for the purpose of constructing the mosque which was ultimately made in one day. Fauti Masjid is amongst the biggest mosques in Kumarpur and also Murshidabad, measuring about 135 metres in length and 38 metres in width.
Cupolas are existent along the four corners of the mosque which also possesses four spiral-shaped staircases. The five domes of Fauti Masjid are yet to be completed. Unfortunately, Fauti Masjid is currently in ruins and is surrounded by lush greenery, which can almost be termed a jungle. The mosque stands precariously and by its delicate state one gets the impression that it might tumble down anytime.
