Fattegad Fort

The Fattegad Fort is a sea fort, which was built to protect the Suvarnadurg Fort but is currently in ruins.

Fattegad Fort, MaharashtraTo safeguard the Suvarnadurg fort, three forts were built on the coast near the Harne village in the state of Maharashtra. These forts were namely the Goa Fort, Kanakdurga Fort and the Fattegad Fort, whose only remnants today is the ramparts facing the sea.

History of Fattegad Fort
Built during the reign of the Maratha Empire under Shivaji, the Fattegad Fort was constructed by Khairiyat Khan and was under the control of Tulaji Angre. The feud between the Peshwa and Angre were at its peak and so to regain control of the fort, the Peshwas colluded with the British against Tulaji. The fort was captured by Captain James and handed over to Peshwas but in 1817, the British forces captured the Fattegad Fort from the Peshwas.

Currently in ruins, the only parts of the fort left standing are the walls and the bridge joining with Kanakdurg. The Fattegad Fort is presently under the administration of the Government of India.

Visiting Information on Fattegad Fort
The town of Dapoli is the closest from the fort at a distance of 15 km and thus to reach the Fattegad Fort, tourists must use the roadway from Dapoli. The nearest city is Mumbai with the major railway station and airport located at a distance of almost 240 km and 234 km respectively from Dapoli.
