This pristine area in Ratnagiri District is situated at about 215 kilometres away from the capital city of Maharashtra, Mumbai. Dapoli is considered the birthplace of Maharshi Annasaheb Karve of Murud, Sane Guruji, and Lokmanya Tilak of Chikhalgaon, his wife Ladghar and P.V. Kane, who won Bharat Ratna.

Location of Dapoli
Dapoli is a town located in Ratnagiri district in the state of Maharashtra in India. It is 215 km away from the state capital of Mumbai. Dapoli is separated from the Sahyadri range (Western Ghats) by the Khed taluka. Dapoli has a seaboard of 50 kilometres which stretches from Burondi, Kelshi to Dabhol.

The coastline of Dapoli differs little in its general characteristics from that of other parts of Konkan Coastal part. It is densely covered by coconut farms. The principal rivers are Bharja River in the north and Vashishthi River in the south. There is also a small river called Jog River which flows through Bandhtivare, Sarang, Tadil, and merges into the Arabian Sea.

Despite being only 8 km away from the coast of Arabian Sea, the town of Dapoli is located at an altitude of around 800 feet. It is called a "Mini Mahabaleshwar" because of its cool climate throughout the year. It is very close to the Arabian Sea. Tourism in Dapoli
Dapoli is surrounded with several small villages such as Anjarle, Mandivali, Sarang, Bandhtivare, Bhopan, Harnai, Dabhol, Navse (Bharti Ship Yard), Unhavare, Jalgaon, Gavhe, Gimhavane, Asud, Vanand, Kherdi, Karde, Murud and Umberghar. In Dapoli, there consists of several forts and fortress. One of the most important forts in Dapoli is Suvarnadurg fort. This fort is divided into two parts, Kanakdurga is the land fort and Suvarnadurg is the sea fort. These forts were originally built by the Adil Shahi Dynasty and later captured and fortified by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1660.

Another important attraction is Panhalakaji Caves. Panhalakaji Caves is located on the Dapoli-Dabhil Pangari road that is a place called Panhalekaji and can also be accessed from Khed via Vakavali and Tetavali. Other important attractions are Unhavare hot water springs, Mahamai Gram Devata Mandir, Kadyavarcha Ganpati, Asud Pul, Harnai Fish Market, Murud Beach, Mandivali, Murud, Dabhol Port, Navse, Keshavraj Temple and many other places in this small town.
