The Eastern Bengal Railway Battalion was an auxiliary military regiment of the Volunteer Corps under the British Indian Army. The unit was a part of the Bengal command. It was also under the Bengal Army which was the armed forces of Bengal Presidency. The battalion was formed on 1st March 1873 as the Eastern Bengal State Railway Volunteer Rifle Corps. The regiment included personnel from the Eastern Bengal Railway and Northern Bengal State Railway. Later, the military unit was re-named as the Eastern Bengal Railway Battalion on 1st October 1920.
The headquarters of the Railway Battalion regiment was situated in Calcutta (now Kolkata). The uniform of the troops was Khaki drill. Later the uniform was modified in the year 1940 and included a formal Khaki dress with white facings and a military badge with a Tiger`s head surrounded by a laurel wreath and surmounted by a crown. The motto of the British Indian regiment was "Semper Paratus". The detached companies of the Eastern Bengal Railway Battalion in 1901 were stationed at Saidpur, Katihar, Parbatipur, Sara, Goalundo, Rajbari, Kanchrapara, Chitpore and a reserve company at Serajgunge.
