Cossipore Field Brigade

The Cossipore Field Brigade, also known as Cossipore Artillery Volunteers, was an erstwhile artillery regiment that functioned under the Volunteer Corps of the Royal Artillery in India. The battalion was established by the British Indian Government on 1st February 1884. It was a part of the Bengal Army, the military of Bengal Presidency. The army unit was also administered by the Bengal Command. The regiment was headquartered at Calcutta (now known as Kolkata) in West Bengal state. The uniform of the troops included blue serge formals and khaki drill dress.

The Cossipore Field Brigade was designated as the Cossipore Artillery Volunteers on the 7th September 1888. It was again renamed on 7th September 1888 as the Cossipore Artillery Volunteers. In the year 1901, the detached companies of the artillery unit were stationed in various bases throughout British India, including Cossipore, Rajgunge, Isharpore, Khardah, Hastings, Juggerdal, Champadany, Bally, Howrah, Gondalpara, Fort Gloster, Budge Budge, Budderollah, Dum Dum, Goosery, Gourepore, Rishra, Tittagarh, Teleiniepara, Kamarhatty, Kankanarah, Baranagore, Garden Reach, Baliaghatta, Samnagar and Barrackpore.

The military battalion was re-designated as number of times in the following years, such as I. (Cossipore) Mobile Brigade Artillery on 1st April 1917 and IV. (Cossipore) Field Brigade on 1st October 1920. The troops of the Cossipore Field Brigade were merged with the I. (Calcutta Port Defence) Field Brigade in order to raise the Bengal Artillery (AFI) on the 18th December 1925.
