Location: This temple is located at Chirakkadavu, about 32 km from Kottayam town.
The shrine is a 100 years old. The temple was probably built during the reign of Alwars where the Lingam was seen, and gained glorification. The place where the lingam was first seen would inundate during the monsoon. The temple was built on a bund of soil. The present pond is the place from where soil was dug for the bund. Pilgrims en-route to Sabarimala seeks the blessings of Mahadeva for he is considered the father of Lord Ayyappa.
Deity: The deity is Mahadeva (Shiva) and the idol is a `Swayambu Lingam`, which was detected from the shadow of a Bilwa tree.
Festivals: Velathullal (a ritualistic dance) and Velakali (ritualistic play) is performed by children between the age of 5 and 20 in warriors` attires holding swords and shields accompanied by drum beats.
One important ritual here is to feed the fish and is called Meenari. The temple provides rice for cash to devotees who feed the fish in the temple pond. This ritual is said to cure ailments of devotees and the members of their families. Jaladhara (bathing the idol) and Mrithunjaya Pushpanjali (floral ritual for long life) are other important offerings. Swayamvara Pushpanjali (floral ritual for marriage alliance) is also important.
There is a Balikallu - sacrificing stone of abnormal size. There is a sculpture and a granite carved oil lamp in front.
