She began her career as a model and then later made her acting debut with the film "Ab Ke Baras" in the year 2002. Amrita Rao achieved success with the blockbuster hit "Ishq Vishk" in 2003, which also featured Shahid Kapoor. The film was directed by filmmaker Ken Ghosh. She received a nomination in the Filmfare Awards for Best Female Debut category for the movie. After that she appeared in several other successful films like "Masti", "Main Hoon Na", "Vivah", "Life Partner" etc.

Early Life of Amrita Rao
Amrita Rao was born on 17th June 1981 in Mumbai to a Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmin family. She completed her schooling from Canossa High school and later completed her B.A. from Sophia College, mastering in psychology. During her college she enrolled herself for modelling. The stunning actress has a younger sister named Preetika Rao who is a model and a popular South Indian film actress.

Career of Amrita Rao
Before joining films Amrita Rao had endorsed popular brands like Fairever Face Cream, Cadbury`s Perk, Bru Coffee etc. to establish her footage in the Indian film industry. She made her debut in films with the Bollywood flick Ab Ke Baras which did not perform well at the box-office. But then she went on to create history with her powerhouse performance in the Bollywood chartbuster Ishq Vishk directed by the renowned filmmaker Ken Ghosh. In this film she starred opposite another aspiring Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor. She melted the hearts of the silver screen audiences with her simple looks and heartfelt emotional approach in this film.

Afterwards, Amrita Rao went on to earn much critical acclaim for her performances in Bollywood hits like Masti and Main Hoon Na. Her endeavours also included movies like "Deewar", "Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi", "Shikhar" and "Pyare Mohan" which could not do well in the box office. But this was just a mere bad phase of her life. Following that she once again managed to receive universal acclaim for the most successful film in her career Vivah made by the famous filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya in 2006. Post Vivah, she did a cameo in the multi-starrer song of the Bollywood chartbuster Heyy Baby. She then went down the south to make her debut with the super hit Telugu movie Athidhi in which she was paired opposite Mahesh Babu. Later on she also starred in Bollywood movies My Name is Anthony Gonslaves and Welcome to Sajjanpur in 2008. The talented actress also had two releases in 2009, Victory and Shortkut. In the same year, she did a special appearance for the film Life Partner. Love U...Mr. Kalakaar released in 2011, and featured Tusshar Kapoor as the male lead. Her other ventures include Jolly LLB, Satyagraha, Singh Sahab the Great and many others.

Amrita Rao has also worked in several music videos. Presently she also walks on the ramps as celebrity guest for various designers.

Achievements of Amrita Rao
Amrita Rao received several awards for her remarkable performances. The most notable ones among them include the Stardust Awards for Superstar of Tomorrow-Female, Sansui Awards for Best Debut-Female, Zee Cine Awards for Best Female Debut, IIFA Awards for Best Female Debut, all for the movie Ishq Vishq in 2004. Then again in the year 2007 she was honoured with Anandalok Puroshkkar Awards for the Most Promising New Talent for the film Vivah. She also won the Sports World Awards, Jodi of the Year along with Shahid Kapoor for Vivah and also the much coveted Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award for the same movie. In the same year she was awarded with GR8 Women Awards-Young Achiever. For the movie Welcome to Sajjanpur in 2009 Amrita received the Stardust Best Actress Award.
