The military unit of the Bellary Volunteer Rifle Corps was an auxiliary infantry unit. It was a part of the Volunteer Corps under the British Indian Army. It was formed as the Bellary Volunteer Rifle Corps by the British Empire in India on 24th July 1885. The regiment was initially assigned with local security.
The battalion provided valuable military service during several British battles and campaigns. The Bellary Volunteer Rifle Corps was merged with other British Indian auxiliary units to raise the Southern Mahratta Railway Rifle Corps on 28th January 1898.
