Banupur

Banupur is a town of Howrah district in West Bengal.

Banupur is a census town situated in the Howrah district in the state of West Bengal in eastern India. The district has its headquarters in the city of Howrah proper. The Howrah District is surrounded by the Hooghly River and the North 24 Parganas as well as the South 24 Parganas districts on the east, by the Hooghly district (Arambagh and Shrirampur sub-divisions) on the north, and by the Midnapore East district (Tamluk sub-division) on the south. The west of the Howrah district shares boundaries with the Ghatal sub -division of the Midnapore West district, to a certain extent with the Arambagh sub -division of the Hooghly district in the north-west, and with the Tamluk sub -division of the Midnapore East district in the south -west.

As per the 2001 India census, the population of Banupur is 11,645. Males and females respectively comprise 63% and 37% of the population. Banupur has a mean literacy rate of 66%, higher than the countrywide average of 59.5%. 69% of the males and 31% of the females are literate. 9% of the population comprises children below six years of age.
