Adichikkavu Sree Durga Devi Kshetram

Adichikkavu Sree Durga Devi Kshetram is located at Pandanad in Chengannur taluk of Alappuzha district in the south Indian state of Kerala. Also known as Adichikavu; (Adichicavu) Devi Temple this is one of the oldest temples in Pandanad village. The temple is situated about 6 km west of Chengannur, and 4 km east of Mannar. The temple is dedicated to goddess Vana Durga. The main attraction of the temple is its top opened Sreekovil, specially made for Vana Durga. The temple is also adorned with Anakottil and Sapthaha Mandapam that has been built on the west-north side of the temple. Apart from the main deity there are other shrines dedicated to deities located in the temple like Yakshiamma, Nagarajav, Nagayakshi, Brahmarakshas.

Festivals of Adichikkavu Sree Durga Devi Kshetram
The temple celebrates many festivals during which it is decked beautifully with lights and flowers. Some of the festivals celebrated by the temple have been described below:

Pathamudayam- The major festival of the temple is Pathamudayam. It takes place during the month of Medam (April). It is a ten day celebrations that begins with Vish, and ends on 23 April with night long celebrations.

Sapthaha Yajnam- This festival is celebrated every year for 7 days. The deity is worshipped by the devotees and food id prepared for the devotees.

Pongala- Every year women gather in this temple and prepare Pongala which is rice cooked with jaggery, ghee, coconut as well as other ingredients in small pots. It is prepared to please Goddess Durga and it is later offered to her.

Parayeduppu- Parayeduppu takes place in the festival season, before Pathamudayam.

Navaha Yajnam- Each year, `Navaha Yajnam` is celebrated for 9 days. Devotees visiting the temple offer worship to the deity. Food is also prepared for them.
