Sardar Baugh Palace is one of the most prominent palaces of India, which is located in district of Kutch of Gujarat. The architecture of this palace is an astounding blend of Italian and Indian styles. The palace was Madansingh’s residence until he died in the year 1991, after which it was turned into a museum showcasing many attractive royal stuffs.
History of Sardar Baugh Palace
Sardar Baug Palace was built in the year 1867 and was positioned right in the middle of the Sardar Baug Park. It owned by the Maharaos who used to govern Kutch. Maharao Madansinghiji Jadeja, the last ruler of the Maharao. After Indian independence of 1947, Kutch became a part of ‘Saurashtra’ after Madansinghji signed the succession treaty.
Structure of Sardar Baugh Palace
Most of the palace got badly demolished due to the earthquake. The bedroom, drawing room, and the guest room occupy maximum space in the palace. The dining room is housed in an adjacent building. Collectibles and antiques including paintings, statuettes, handicrafts, swords, spears, and hunting trophies have been exhibited in this palace, which turned it into a museum now.
Visiting Information to Sardar Baugh Palace
The best time to visit this palace is from November to March. Bhuj Railway Station and Bhuj Airport are the nearest transport mediums to visit the palace. It can also be reached by road via National Highway 19 and 27.
