![]() Cheraman Juma Masjid Cheraman Juma Masjid is located in the Methala village of Kodungallur town of Kerala. This Masjid was built in 629 AD. A person named Malik lbn Dinar is credited with the establishment of this mosque. Cheraman Juma Masjid has the distinction of being the first and the oldest mosque constructed in India. A unique feature of this mosque is that it faces eastwards unlike other mosques in Kerala, which stand facing westwards. Malik Ibn Dinar Mosque Malik Ibn Dinar Mosque is located in Thalangara in the district of Kasaragod. This Muslim pilgrimage center was constructed in AD 642. An Arabian Islamic missionary namely, Malik Ibn Dinar is credited with the establishment of this mosque. The mosque has derived its name from the name of its creator. This mosque houses the tomb of Malik Ibn Mohammed, a disciple of Malik Ibn Dinar. This mosque is devoted to Sheik Fariduddin. One of the most colourful religious festivals of Kerala namely, Kodikuthu is celebrated in this mosque. People belonging to different religions visit Sheik Fariduddin Mosque during the conduction of Chandanakudam ritual. Korome Mosque Korome Mosque is located about 23 km from Mananthavady. The noteworthy aspect of this mosque is its extensive wood carvings. It was initially constructed by the Nair community and was later altered under the leadership of Athilan Bappan. Mishkal Mosque Mishkal Mosque is housed in Kuttichira, a part of Thekkepuram beach in Calicut. This mosque was constructed in the 14th century. A rich Arab merchant namely, Nakhooda Mishkal is credited with the establishment of this mosque. The mosque has derived it’s name from the name of it’s creator. This medieval mosque is regarded as an important cultural, historical and architectural monument in Kerala.
