Chittar is a village nestled in Pathanamthitta district
in Kerala state of India
. It is predominantly a plantation township and is situated in the Ranni taluk and in Konni constituency in Pathanamthitta district. Earlier, it was included in the Ranni legislative assembly constituent, but now in Konni assembly. Chittar is known for its swaying rubber trees
. In addition to this, it is also famed for its pineapple, tapioca, nuts, ginger
, and pepper cultivation.
Location of Chittar
is located in the south eastern part of Kerala. It is situated 29 km away from Pathanamthitta town at its east. It is located on Mannarakulanji-Seethathodu Road.
Population of Chittar
According to India census 2001, Chittar had a population of 33977 out of which males were 16498 and females were 17479. The people mainly belong to Hindu, Christian and Muslim religions.

To facilitate the people, several hospitals, medical stores, banks, etc have been established in the village. Some of the hospitals are Govt. PHC, Muthoot Hospital, Athira Hospital, Dr. Babu's Clinic, Kochupurackal Clinic, Govt. Ayurveda Dispensary, Vaidyaratnam P. S. Varier's Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala etc. The banks and financial enterprises operated here include State Bank of Travancore, Federal bank, South Malabar Gramin Bank, Pathanamthitta District Co-operative Bank, Co-operative Society, Mini Muthoot, Mulamoottil Bankers and Kodooruzhathil Bankers.

The village has established one Government High School and plus two (Higher Secondary) schools in addition to several middle schools and lower primary schools. The first lower primary school was started by Orthodox Christian Denomination and was later handed over to the government. Some of the names of the schools are Komala Vilasm School, Padayanippara, Little Angels English Medium School, Royal Parallel College, Santhi Niketan Parallel College and Ideal Parallel College. Some of the nearby colleges are Caarmel Engineering College, Musalliar Engineering College, Mount Zion Engineering College, Pushpagiri Medical College, Muthoot Nursing College, St. Thomas College and Catholicate College.
Tourist Attractions of Chittar
There are so many places of interest at this village where people can rejuvenate their minds. Here one can see the vast areas of rubber plantations and pineapple plantations. One can visit the famous rock known as the Chathurakkalli Para, which is also an underground cave. Then there is a beautiful hilly area called Manpilavu, an ancient ruined temple
and an amazing waterfall called Kannunaruvi.
