![]() Flora of Talakaveri Wildlife Sanctuary Talakaveri Wildlife Sanctuary is mainly dominated by tropical evergreen forest covers. Several varieties of flora are found here like Artocarpus lakoocha, Mesua ferrea, Pallaquim ellipticum, Dysoxylum malabaricum, Hopea parviflora and Dipterocarpus indicus. Cardamom and Coffee plantations can also be found in the sanctuary among several other species. Fauna of Talakaveri Wildlife Sanctuary Mammals inhabiting the sanctuary include Porcupine, Ruddy Mongoose, Striped-Necked Mongoose, Brown Mongoose, Common Mongoose, Clawless Otter, Mouse Deer, Barking Deer, Giant Flying Squirrel, Malabar Giant Squirrel, Spotted Deer, Sambar, Common Langur, Bonnet Macaque, Brown Palm Civet, Common Palm Civet, Nilgiri Marten, Wild dog, Leopard Cat, Leopard, Lion-tailed Macaque, Sloth Bear, Wild Pig, Gaur, Jackal, Tiger and Elephant. Snakes also form an interesting variety of fauna in the sanctuary including species like King Cobra, Python, Rat Snake and Cobra. Avifauna of the forest is much fascinating and the members include Black Eagle, Broadbilled Roller, Fairy Bluebird, Malabar Trogon, Great Pied Hornbill and many others. Visiting Information Talakaveri Wildlife Sanctuary is best visited between the period of November and April. The place also offers a wondrous trekking experience. A nearby attraction for the tourists is Igguthappa Devara Betta. Mangalore is the nearest Airport while Mysore and Mangalore form the nearest railhead. Roadways connect the city well with Mangalore via Bhagamandala, Madikeri, Sulliya and Puttur and Bengaluru through Bhagamandala, Kushalanagar, Madikeri and Mysore.
