Thammampatti is located in Salem district in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is a town panchayat in Gangavalli taluk. The Pachaimalai Hills and the Kolli Hills are situated on either side of the town. Swetha River flows through the town and unites with the Vasista River. Together they form Vellar River that drains into the Bay of Bengal at Port Novo. Some of the places near Thammampatti worth visiting are Alanganallur and Pudukottai.
Economy of Thammampatti
Thammampatti is known for producing of tapiaco (kuchikizhangu). The town is spread over acres of land and has more 50 processing mills. Wood carving is another major occupation of the residents of the town that has been passed down through generations. These are also exported to countries like Srilanka, Burma, Maldives etc.
Pilgrimage Centres in Thammampatti
Thammampatti is an important pilgrimage centre visited by devotees from different places. The Kashi Vishwanathar Aalayam is one of the prominent shrines of the town. Swetha River flows by this shrine. The Aavudayar in this temple is square in shape. It is believed that the Panch Pandavas had visited the town. Kumbhabhishekam was organised in the temple. Another important shrine situated in Thammampatti is Sri Ukra Khadali Narasimha Swamy Temple. It is almost 600 years old. In 2008 Kumbhabhishekam was organised in the temple. Besides this a temple of Lord Murugan, a mosque and a church stand here in perfect harmony with each other. It stands as an example of unity of the people residing in the town.
