The Coorg and Mysore Rifles was a British Indian volunteer force. It was under the Madras Army, which was the military of Madras Presidency and one of the 3 Presidency Armies in British India. The unit was also administered by the Madras Command. The army unit was based in Coorg and Mysore. The Coorg and Mysore Rifles unit was formed on 21st November 1884 from battalions of the Bangalore (now Bengaluru) Rifle Volunteers. Later it was reassigned to Coorg and Mysore in 1897.
The headquarters of the regiment was situated in Mercara (now Madikeri town in Karnataka). The uniform included a khaki formal dress. The detached companies of the military unit were sent to different bases in South Coorg and West Mysore. The Coorg and Mysore Rifles unit was merged with the Bangalore Rifles unit in 1917 in order to raise the 6th Bangalore, Coorg and Mysore Battalion.
