The troops of the 48th Indian Infantry Brigade valiantly served during the Burma Campaign. In April 1942, it was allotted to the 1st Burma Division. Later in January 1947, the brigade was temporarily disbanded in Burma, while it was attached to the 17th Indian Infantry Division. After the Indian independence and the partition of India, the 48th Indian Infantry Brigade was assigned to the independent army of the newly formed Union of India. It was reformed as an independent brigade. Later the brigade was attached to the new 17th Infantry Division on 15 November 1960 at Ambala. The troops participated in the annexation of Goa in December 1960. It also provided significant military service during the war between India and China in 1962 (Indo China Conflict, 1962).
