55th Indian Infantry Brigade

The infantry formation of the 55th Indian Infantry Brigade of the British Indian Army was raised during the outbreak of World War II. It remained in existence from the year 1942 to the year 1945. The military force was formed by the British Government of India in April 1942. Initially it was allotted to the 7th Indian Infantry Division. The brigade was later assigned to the North Western Army from July 1942 to September 1942. Eventually it was attached to the 14th Indian Infantry Division.

The 55th Indian Infantry Brigade valiantly fought in the Burma Campaign in the South East Asian Theatre of the Second World War. The troops served under the administrative control of the 14th Division till the end of World War II. Later in June 1943, it was re-structured as a training brigade. Brigadier P. H. Gates and Brigadier J. M. Hunt were the most notable commanding Officers of the 55th Indian Infantry Brigade.
