The name Udanti has derived from the Udanti River. The topography of the region is mainly hilly and some parts are plain landform. Udanti Wildlife Sanctuary is known for its efforts to preserve the endangered species of wild buffaloes. Udanti Wildlife Sanctuary occupies the south-eastern portion of Gariaband Tehsil of Raipur District
of Chattisgarh. Udanti Wildlife Sanctuary adjoins in Chattisgarh state in Eastern side. It covers an area of 247.59 Sq. Kms. The Sanctuary is principally created to protect the wild buffaloes. The other species are also abundant in the area. Udanti Wildlife Sanctuary was established in the year 1983 under the Wild Life Protection Act of 1972 which was passed in the year 1972. Wildlife Sanctuary of Udanti in Chattisgarh is inhabited by the endangered Wild Buffalos and Hill Myna respectively. The other animals and birds which you can see in these sanctuaries are the Wild Boar

The hilly terrain and the plain land of the Udanti Wildlife Sanctuary add to the scenic beauty of the sanctuary. This sanctuary is visited by tourists from all over India and abroad. From the state capital of Chhattisgarh, Raipur, Udanti Wild Life Sanctuary is at a distance of 160 km. The tourists from outside Chhattisgarh can avail the facility of the Raipur airport. The sanctuary can be reached through the weather roads in the district. Rail and bus service can also be availed from Rajim
To reach the Udanti Wildlife Sanctuary, one is required to go to the nearest Railway Station is Rajim (115 Kms). The main Station near Udanti Wildlife Sanctuary is Raipur (170 Kms.) on Mumbai
railway line. The principal approach Road is Raipur-Rajim-Gariaband-Mainpur
-Deobhog PWD all weather road.
Prior permission is required to enter the Udanti Sanctuary. It can be had from Divisional Forest Officer, Wild life Division, Old Chhattisgarh College Campus of Raipur.
