Palliyin Mukoodal temple is home to the Veeratteswarar temple, one of the eight. It is regarded as the 86th in the series of Tevara Stalams south of the river Kaveri. Rama offered worship here. There is a Ramaswamy temple behind this Shivastalam. The lingam is highly polished. Jatayu worshipped Shiva and was told to bathe in the Mukkoodal theertham as it was considered on par with Benares and TriveniSangamam. It is also known as ShodasaSethu. Given the association with Jatayu, this Tevara Stalam is also known as KuruviRameswaram.
