43rd Erinpura Regiment
43rd Erinpura Regiment was an infantry battalion formed by the British East India Company after the Sepoy Mutiny in 1857. It existed from 1860 to 1922.

43rd Erinpura Regiment, Bengal ArmyThe 43rd Erinpura Regiment existed from the year 1860 to 1922. It was an infantry battalion formed by the British East India Company after the Sepoy Mutiny in 1857. The battalion was incorporated as a part of the Bengal Command. It was also under the Army of the Bengal Presidency until 1895. The Bengal Army was amongst the 3 main Presidency Armies in British India. The infantry regiments were reformed and re-structured a number of times. Bengal Army officiated under the administrative governance of English East India Company. Later the British Crown seized control over the East India Company and the Bombay Army, the Madras Army and the Bengal Army after the implementation of the Government of India Act 1858.

History of 43rd Erinpura Regiment
The 43rd Erinpura Regiment was formed in the year 1860 by Lieutenant Colonel J F W Hall. The regiment was initially raised as the Erinpoorah Irregular Force at Erinpura and comprised of both infantry and cavalry regiments. After the reforms in the British Indian Army institutionalized by Lord Kitchener in the year 1903, the military battalion was designated as only an infantry regiment. The army unit took part in the First World War as a part of the 15th Indian Division. It also participated in the Campaign to Mesopotamia. Later in the year 1917, a second battalion of the 43rd Erinpura Regiment was formed, but it was disbanded after the war.

Dissolution of 43rd Erinpura Regiment
After the culmination of the First World War, the British Indian government restructured the regiments in the Indian Army. Hence, most of the single battalion regiments were merged to raise larger regiments comprising of several battalions. Moreover nine regiments were disbanded as well. The infantry unit of the 43rd Erinpura Regiment was amongst the nine regiments and the unit was dissolved in 15th October 1921.
