Prominent Records in Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer
Eminent singers Asha Bhosle and Alka Yagnik account for the most number of wins in the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer with 7 wins each. They are also the only singers to achieve the feat of being receiving all the nominations in a single year. While Asha Bhosle was the sole nominee in the year 1973, Alka Yagnik had all the four nominations in 1994, one of them jointly with Ila Arun. Alka Yagnik's 4 nominations in that year along with Asha Bhosle's 4 out of the five nominations in 1975 make them the singers with most number of nominations in a single year. Alka Yagnik also holds the record of most number of nominations with 36 in total and most number of consecutive nominations, 14 of them from 1992 till 2005, followed by Shreya Ghoshal with 11 consecutive nominations from 2006 till date and still running. Asha Bhosle holds the record for most consecutive wins, with 4 of them from 1972 to 1975, followed by the 3 consecutive wins of Anuradha Paudwal (1991-1993), Kavita Krishnamurthy (1995-1997) and Alka Yagnik (2000-2002), respectively.
Shreya Ghoshal has 5 wins in total in the category, followed by Lata Mangeshkar, Anuradha Paudwal and Kavita Krishnamurthy who have won the award for a total four times each. In 1971, Lata Mangeshkar made the unusual gesture of giving up the Filmfare Best Female Playback Singer Award to promote fresh talent. After receiving her seventh award in 1979, Asha Bhosle emulated her elder sister and requested to not to be considered for nominations thereafter. Lata Mangeshkar was the only recipient and nominee of this award till the time was not segregated into two for different genders. She is the earliest recipient of this award in 1959.
