She is renowned for her husky voice which provides a unique appeal to her Rajasthani folk and folk-pop fusion renditions. Apart from films she is also active in Indian television as an actress. Ila Arun has enthralled the audiences with her stunning performances in films and serials. She has a few albums also to her credit which comprises some of the great renditions.

Early Life of Ila Arun
Ila Arun was born on 14th March in the city of Jaipur, Rajasthan. She also grew up in the same city. She did her graduation from Maharani Girls College in Jaipur. She hails from a family associated with the entertainment industry. Her brothers are Prasoon Pandey and Piyush Pandey who are ad-makers by profession whereas her sister Rama Pandey works as a BBC journalist and a DD newsreader. Lalit Sen, the famed music composer, is her cousin. Since childhood Ila Arun had an inclination towards singing especially Rajasthani folk music.

Ila Arun has lent her magical voice to a number of songs in Hindi flicks. Apart from Bollywood she has also sung for the south Indian film industry including Tamil and Telugu. Till date her most popular song has been "Choli Ke Peeche" that she sung for the Bollywood flick Khalnayak along with Avdhesh Maheshwai. The song also marked her debut in Bollywood as a playback singer. For the song, she also won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer. Her song "Morni Baaga Ma Bole", along with Lata Mangeshkar in the film Lamhe starring Sridevi also received huge applauses and is still remembered. She collaborated with A. R. Rahman for the Tamil song "Muthu Muthu Mazhai" for the movie Mr. Romeo. She has also sung the song "Ringa Ringa" along with Alka Yagnik composed by A. R. Rahman for the movie Slumdog Millionaire which once again went on to become a chartbuster.

Ila Arun is also known for numerous successful singles like Vote for Ghagra which marked huge success by selling more than 100,000 copies. The album compiled many enchanting numbers like "Bichuda", "Main Raatan Jagi", "Darudi", "Mera Assi Kali ka Ghagra", "Main Ho Gayi Sawa Lakh Ki", "Morni" etc. She also voiced the promotional song for the Rajasthan Royals team in the Indian Premier League titled "Halla Bol" which was an instant hit. Hailing from Rajasthan, Ila Arun frequently sprinkles the Rajasthani essence in her songs, featured in albums as well as films, beautifully. Ila Arun has also appeared in the music based television reality show Fame Gurukul as the Kulguru which was aired on the Sony Television Channel. She also judged a celebrity reality show titled Junoon-Kuchh Kar Dikhaane Ka on NDTV Imagine.

Ila Arun began her career in the entertainment industry with the Hindi TV serial Lifeline which was based on the life of doctors. Aired on Doordarshan, she starred alongside Tanvi Azmi in the serial. She has also acted in a stage drama titled The House of Bilquis Bibi. She marked her debut as an actress in the Hindi film industry with the 1983 flick Mandi. Ila Arun received appreciations for her electrifying performance in the movie Jodhaa Akbar in 2008. In the movie she portrayed the role of Maham Anga who was Akbar"s wet nurse and was also like her mother. She has also appeared in critically acclaimed films including Ghatak, West is West, Welcome to Sajjanpur, Well Done Abba, Chingari, China Gate and others. She has also acted in the 1980s Bharat Ek Khoj, an Indian television show. She has essayed the role of Smt. Hansa Mehta in a TV mini-series titled Samvidhaan which portrayed the making of the Constitution of India.
