Several railway zones were carved out of the existing zones to deal with the growing demand of proper transportation facilities. South East Central Railway is one of the sixteen zones and it came into existence in the year 2003. The headquarters for this zone is situated in Bilaspur. Besides this there are two more divisions of South East Central Railway: Nagpur and Raipur. The trains of this zone connect the states of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. Both these states are known for their tourist destinations. As a result numerous tourists, both national and international, avail the services of South East Central Railway, Bilaspur.
The stations of South East Central Railway offer several facilities to the passengers. These include cloak rooms, computerised reservation systems, online checking systems, retiring rooms and others. For a smooth functioning the work at the zone has been divided into different departments, such as, administration, commercial, mechanical, medical, safety, accounts, vigilance, etc. An adequate number of express and mail trains run along the tracks of South East Central Railway zone.
