Panikhar is a lightly populated region and its nearby mountain offers panoramic views of the lofty and snow-clad mountains. It is settled in Suru valley, Jammu and Kashmir. Panikhar is a small trekking centre at the Lonvilad Gali Pahalgam Trail. It extends from Kargil, Jammu and Kashmir and is mostly occupied by Tibeto-Darad (Muslims who converted to Buddhist faith around the middle of the 16th century).

Panikhar presents the great views of Nun Kun mountain massifs. The place is also said to be the most beautiful settled areas in the Trans-Himalayan area and refreshing stopover on the way to Padum. Tourists can walk to nearby Parkachik La to enjoy the wonderful sight of the glacier. The fort of Zorawar Singh is a major tourist attraction of Panikhar.
