Peechi Dam is built across the Manali River and lies close to Thrissur in Kerala.

Peechi Dam, KeralaPeechi Dam is a loved picnic spot, located 23km from Thrissur. This dam project initially came up as an irrigation project, but later also catered to the drinking water requirements of the region. The reservoir offers boating facilities, thus assuring it to be a fascinating picnic spot for the tourists. The tourists also visit can see wild tuskers on the forested grounds alongside the Manali River. Certain zones of this forested land form a wildlife sanctuary. Peechi Dam is one of the oldest dams in Kerala.

There are frequent private buses reaching this spot from the bus terminal of Thrissur. The Manali River has a vast catchment area of nearly 3200 acres with widespread botanical gardens and tumbling fountains offer several attractive avenues for tourists. One can see the Peechi Wildlife Sanctuary, established in 1958 and covering an area of 125Sq.Km. Another lovely place, Peechy lies only 15 Km from Thrissur.

The Peechi-Vazhani Sanctuary is dense, forest ground with moist deciduous and semi-evergreen trees in the catchment area of the Peechi and Vazhani dams. The sanctuary preserves more than 50 species of orchids and medicinal plants. Authentic treasure house of rare flora and fauna, this sanctuary is an admired spot of the region. Boating and trekking are the most popular recreational activities in the region. Tigers, Leopards and Wild Dogs, besides the Sambar and the Spotted and Barking deer, frequent the natural habitat at Peechi-Vazhani Sanctuary.
