Vajra Bhairava Shrine is a `tantric` guardian deity of the Gelugpa order. Vajra Bhairava Shrine, Spituk, Leh, Jammu & Kashmir is considered to possess supernatural powers. The unusualness of this shrine is that the deity is unveiled only once in a year. For the remaining year, it is kept inside a chamber. There are paintings that go back over 600 years on the walls of the temple. It is Spituk`s oldest building. Mahakal Temple, Spituk Monastery and Spituk Gustor are the major attractions in the vicinity. Vajra Bhairava Shrine is situated in Spituk, about 10km from Leh.
