Universities of Uttar Pradesh are institutions, which offer specialization in various fields to students in India. Sanskrit based education, along with Pali, Arabic and Persian languages were prevalent in Uttar Pradesh. The present education system owes its inception and development to foreign Christian missionaries and the British colonial administration. Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth
Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, formerly known as Kashi Vidyapeeth is located in Varanasi. It is the first modern university organized by Indians in India. It started its journey in the colonial period in 1921. The university has more than 400 affiliated colleges. Banaras Hindu University
Banaras Hindu University is situated in Varanasi. It was founded by the great nationalist leader, Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya in 1916. It is regarded as the largest residential university in Asia. The main campus of the university occupies an area of about 5.3 square kilometers (1,300 acres). Being a central university, it covers the total spectrum of higher education.
Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University
Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, earlier known as Purvanchal University is located about 11 km from the city of Jaunpur. This public university was established in the year 1987. Its name has been derived from the name of a former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Vir Bahadur Singh. The university imparts education in the backward and rural regions of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate University of Medical Sciences
Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate University of Medical Sciences is situated in Lucknow. It was set up in the year 1983, under a state act. Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University
