Trymbakgad Fort

Trymbakgad Fort is a fort located in the Nashik district of Maharashtra. This is an important fort in Nashik district. It is located on a hill adjoining the famous Trymbakeshwar Temple. This fort is joined to the Bhandardurg fort by a narrow natural bridge.

Etymology of Trymbakgad Fort
Trymbakgad Fort is also known as "Brahmagiri Fort". According to mythology, Lord Brahma meditated in this spot and his meditation pleased Lord Shiva, who said, he should be known by Brahma"s name and hence the fort is called as "Brahmagiri".

History of Trymbakgad Fort
Trymbakgad Fort was built during Yadava period. It was under the control of brother of Ramchandra of Devagiri from 1271 to 1308. In 1670, Peshwa Moropant Pingle a chieftain of King Shivaji captured this fort. Mughal army tried to capture this fort after a long siege from 1682 to 1684. Finally, the fort was surrendered to Mughal. This fort was captured by Sahu Maharaj in 1691 and was under the control of Maratha Empire till 1818 after which it was captured by the British army.

Visiting Information of Trymbakgad Fort
The base village of the fort is Trymbakeshwar. The trekking path starts from the hillock south of the Trymbakeshwar. The route is very safe and wide. It takes about an hour to reach the entrance gate of the fort.
