Itanagar
Itanagar under the Papum Pare district is one of the main attractions for the tourists offering numerous exploring options. It is located at the foothills and is the capital of the state of Arunachal Pradesh. The Itanagar Township is located at 350 metres above the sea level. As this city is the capital town, Itanagar is well connected with the rest of the country by road and air communications. The capital houses, the `Raj Bhawan`, the official residence of the Governor are also mentioned as some of the worth visiting places of Itanagar.

"Ita Fort" is one of the most important historical sites in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. The name literally means "Fort of bricks". The Ita Fort at Arunachal Pradesh was built as early as the 14th or the 15th century. The fort has an irregular shape, built mainly with bricks dating back to the 14th-15th Century. The total brickwork is of 16,200 cubic metre lengths which have been identified by some scholars with Mayapur of Ramachandra, a king of the Jitari Dynasty. The fort has 3 different entrances at 3 different sides, which are western, the eastern and the southern sides.

Ganga Lake
Apart from these must visiting places, the tourism places of Papum Pare district also include other attractions like the legendary `Ganga Lake`. It is described as a beautiful picnic spot, located at a distance of 6 km away from Itanagar. It is a beautiful natural lake locally known as `Gekar Sinyi` surrounded by a landmass of hard rock. Primeval vegetation, orchids, masses on tall trees and tree ferns contribute to its popularity as a picnic spot. Boating facilities and a swimming pool are available at the site.

Another popular attraction of this place is the Buddhist temple sanctified by the Dalai Lama. This beautiful yellow roofed shrine replicates the widespread Tibetan influence and offers good views of Itanagar and the adjacent countryside.

Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum
Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum provides a kaleidoscope of Arunachal Pradesh and here one can see woodcarvings, musical instruments, textiles, handicrafts and archaeological finds, while a workshop in the Handicrafts Centre concentrates in traditional cane manufacture. It has a library section too.

Other important places of interest in and around Itanagar include `Donyi-Polo Vidya Bhawan`, a premier public school, North-Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology at Nirjuli, a well renowned engineering institute of the state providing innovative way of technical education, Arunachal University at Doimukh, Government Piggery and Poultry Farm at Nirjuli and Indira Gandhi Park at Itanagar.
