Torgal Fort is located in Ramdurg, Belgaum District of Karnataka over an area of 100 acres. The entire fort is encircled by 20 feet deep and 15 feet wide huge moat. The fort is built out of yellow Shahabadi stone and encompassed by rocky hills on three sides. River Malaprabha flows on the other side, which is the source of the water to the moat which surrounds the fort structure. The outside portion of the fort is adorned with stone inscriptions in Persian and Kannada language. Torgal Fort was actually built by seven encircles or fortifications, out of which only five remain now. Watchtowers with minarets are found on all four sides of the fort. There are four entrances of the fort in total, of which only the eastern entrance is in use. The Rajawada or the palace is located at the center of the fort over 5 acres of land.
History of Torgal Fort
According to the legends before the fort, a village woman called Mallamma, who was pregnant, attained samadhi for the prosperity of Torgal village. She is highly revered and a memorial has been constructed in her memory. The memorial is located on the northern side of the fort. Torgal Fort is also consisted of Bhootanatha Temple, which depicts Chalukya style of architecture, and a mosque can also be seen inside the fort campus.

Belagavi Railway Station and Belagavi Airport are the nearest to reach this fort. National Highway 4 connects this place to other major cities of India.
