Tollygunge Club is a recreation club for the people of South Kolkata. Previously, this club was the amusement house of Britons.

Tollygunge Club, Kolkata, West BengalTollygunge Club which is popularly called Tolly Club was the recreational club for the Britions residing in Kolkata. Now, in modern Kolkata, after the independence of India on 15th August 1947, Tolly Club is the house of modern European hub in Kolkata. The members of Kolkata, who are specially belonging from the posh area of Kolkata are now the existing members of Tollygunge Club. Tollygunge Club also offers banquet hall and also offers the platform for many cultural events and fests organised by the governmental and non governmental bodies.

Location of Tollygunge Club
Tollygunge Club is one of the premier country clubs, located in Tollygunge in south Kolkata.

History of Tollygunge Club
Sir William Cruikshank established Tollygunge Club as an equestrian sports facility in the year 1895 to promote all manner of sports like golf, cricket, football, horse riding and the squash.

Extension of Tollygunge Club
Tollygunge Club is spread over 100 acres, with a clubhouse that is over 200 years old.

Grounds of Tollygunge Club
The extensive grounds of Tollygunge Club were originally an indigo plantation laid out in 1781 by the Johnson family, who were amongst the pioneers of the plantation industry in India. Later the grounds were to become a royal park at the heart of the princely estate established by the exiled family of Tipu Sultan, the deposed ruler of Mysore and the house which the Johnsons had built as their home became the garden house of the new Mysore Estate.

Acquiring of Tollygunge Club
In 1895, the entire property of Tollygunge Club was acquired from the Mysore family by the Tollygunge Club Limited and the old Johnson home is today the clubhouse.

Environment of Tollygunge Club
The ground of Tollygunge Club boast an enviable collection of flowering trees and tropical plants, many of which have been brought from far field of Australia and South America in the early era of modern period.

The natural sanctuary of Tollygunge Club has a variety of exotic birds. This natural sanctuary has the birds and many trees which gives the ambience of serene environment.
