Victory War Memorial is located in the southern direction of the Marina beach in the city of Chennai in Tamil Nadu. This memorial was earlier known as Cupid`s bow and is situated to the south of Fort St. George. The Marina beach almost 13 km long begins from this point. Victory War Memorial is made of marble and is a circular rock constructed where earlier the coastal belfry was built. The structure was constructed in honour of the martyrs who laid down their lives in World War I (1914-1918). It commemorates the success of the allied armies. It is regarded as the victory war memorial of World War II (1939-1945). Many soldiers of the Madras presidency had also lost their lives in the war. Thus, the memorial also stands as an acknowledgment of their contribution of lives.
Later, inscriptions of 1962 War with China, 1948 Kashmir Aggression and the Indo-Pakistan War were also added to it.
