Ancient Mound , Buxar, BiharThe Ancient Mound of Chausa garh is situated in Bihar. Buxar district of Bihar is famed of having the remnants of the mound. Chausa 11 kms away is well known in history as the place where in 1539 A.D. Sher Shah Suri defeated the Humayun Mughal Emperor. It has been proved time and again that the archaeological importance and the historical affluence go hand in hand. They are the two sides of a coin. The archaeological importance is seen in the Ancient Mound found around Chausagarh. The most important being the 18 Jain bronze images dating from the Sunga period, now in Patna Museum. A hoard of coins was also found in Chausa. Fragments of terracotta panels, stone sculptures from an ancient period have also been found mostly from Kushan period, Ayodhya and Indo-Sassanian. These Ancient Mounds now can be found at Patna Museum and Sitaram Upadhyaya Buxar Museum.

This Ancient Mound is now limited to Buxar fort area where river Ganga has out through it creating a cliff. Originally it covered a large area - one km in length from the area of Khaku Baba Ashram to Ram Rekha Ghat. Play seals and sealing seem to stand for personal names and belong from the 3rd BC to 1st century BC.
