This temple enshrines Vishnu and his consort Lakshmi, Bhrahma and Saraswati, Shiva and Parvati. This temple is also called Nepakshetram or Adimapuram. It is believed Tirumangaialwar lived here, supervising the renovation of the Srirangam temple. Deities: There are shrines dedicated to the trinity - Shiva and his consort Vadivudaiamman, Brahma and his consort Saraswati, Vishnu and his consort (Purushottaman and Poornavalli). Shiva is worshipped in the form of Bhikshatanar.
Legend: The fifth head of Brahma was pulled out by Shiva and stuck to his palms. It could be removed only after receiving alms from Mahalakshmi.
Brahma is regarded as a guru - teacher, and hence offered worship on Thursday`s. Another legend states that Vishnu took the form of a Kadamba tree where Brahma offered worship, and water from his kamandalam. Kadamba muni also offered worship to Vishnu on the banks of the Kadamba theertham created by Bhrahma.
Temple: Shiva`s shrine is situated south of Vishnu`s shrine, and faces west. There is a shrine dedicated to Dasaratha lingam and Soundara Parvati. There are shrines for Andal, Varadarajaperumaal, Venugopalan, Rama, Vinayakar, Natarajar, Subramaniyar, Saneeswaran and Anjaneyar. The Bhikshatanar form of Shiva is considered of great importance. Sanakar, Sanandanar and Sanatkumarar, as well as Kadamba Muni worshipped the Trinity here. Inscriptions from the period of the Cholas and Pandyas are also found here.
Festivals: The annual Bhramotsavam of Perumaal is conducted in the month of Chittirai, while that for Shiva is conducted in Vaikasi. The Maasi festival of the Tiruvarangam temple witnesses a procession of Ranganathar to the Kadamba theertham at this temple
