The Dehu samadhi temple

Known primarily as a place for excursion, Dehu is the abode of the great Saint Tukaram. Known widely for his preaching, he was immensely popular with his disciples. In fact, he along with Sant Dnyaneshwar worshipped Lord Vitthal. The `Palakhi` in the month of `Ashadh` from Dehu is one of the main attractions of Dehu. Many people take part in it from many areas and from many years now. Tukaram was a very revered saint of Maharashtra and played the key role in the Bhakti Movement of the State. Till today, he is remembered for his `Abhang` and `Gatha`.

The Dehu samadhi temple was constructed in 1723. His younger son, Narayanbaba got the temple made on the banks of the river Indrayani. The rock, atop which the Sant sat, while on fasting, is still present there. The `Vaikunth Sthan` is a type of ashram in Dehu. A visitor is sure to enjoy the calm and tranquil atmpsphere, once he/she alights to the spot. It is easily accessible by regular buses from Swargate, PMC and Pune station.
