Danghati Mukharvind

Danghati is another less-known Mukharvind, which got its present name from Allan Entwistle. This name was given to a stretch of the Mathura-Dig road, which crosses over a break or low point of the Govardhan ridge.

There is a partly ruined temple known as the original Danfray temple found above the Dan Ghati. According to Entwistle, the so called Mukharvind stone worshipped at Dan Ghati have resemblance with a head surrounded by cobra hoods. As per this author, there may be no conclusive evidence that the worship of the Govardhan hill was primarily a naga cult, yet these associations indicate a degree of coalescence between the worship of nagas and the hill.

It may be that the naga element had come to predominate in the period preceding the arrival of Madhavendra Pun and Vallabha himself, under whose influence the worship of Govardhan became more closely linked with that of Krishna-Gopal.
