The beach is named after the Tenneti Park which is located near the beach. Both the beach and the park are named in the honour of Tenneti Viswanadham, a freedom fighter and political leader of Vishakhapatnam.

It is located at Vizag or Vishakhapatnam in the Andhra Pradesh state of India. It lies on the shoreline of the Bay of Bengal and is very close to the Kailasa Giri Hills.

Since the beach is located by the coasts of Bay of Bengal, it experiences a hot and humid climate. During summer, the temperature reaches to the highest level of 45 degree C or more than that. During winter, the temperature varies from 18 degree C to 32 degree C. Hence, summers are extremely hot and winters are pleasant. During monsoon, the beach experiences heavy rainfall of around 945 milliliters.

The ideal time to explore the Tenneti beach is during the months of November to February as the temperature is moderate at that time. The beach is well-linked via airway, railway and roadway. The nearest airport is Vizag Airport which connects all the major cities like Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai to the beach. The nearest railhead is Vizag Railway Station and many superfast and express trains have stoppages at this station. The road network also connects this beach to various major cities.
